What is TF-CBT?
Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) is an evidence-based treatment designed to help children and adolescents process and heal from trauma by combining cognitive-behavioral techniques with trauma-sensitive interventions. It involves gradual exposure to traumatic memories, cognitive restructuring to challenge unhelpful thoughts, and coping strategies to manage distress. TF-CBT also includes caregiver involvement to support the child's recovery and strengthen family relationships.

If your child or teen has experienced trauma, such as abuse, violence, loss, or a frightening event and is struggling with anxiety, nightmares, mood changes, or difficulty at school or home, Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) may be a good option. This short-term, structured therapy is designed specifically for children and adolescents and helps them understand their emotions, develop coping skills, and safely process their trauma in a way that reduces distress. TF-CBT also involves parents or caregivers to provide support and strengthen family communication. If your child is feeling stuck in fear, sadness, or anger because of a past event, TF-CBT can help them heal and move forward in a healthy way.
